Distance: 3.86 miles
Time: 2 hours
Map: OS 294
This, there & back again walk, is the first part of the Minster & Chalkland Ways Loop, which, I discovered, has a stile at the end- OK for humans & small dogs that can be lifted- not big fellas like Bill! This lovely linear walk explores the best bits!
Start / End: Millington Wood Car Park
Distance: 3.2 miles
Time: 1.5 hours
Map: OS 294
The first section, along the top of Millington Dale, is a bit of an off-roader with lovely views into the valley. After a short on (quiet) road part, the walk follows the Yorkshire Wolds Way with glimses down into the Vale of York and a bench half way along for a refreshment break.
Start /End: Millington
Distance: 5.46 miles
Time: 2.5 hours
Map: OS 294
This is a lovely loop, with on road at the end, but the 2nd part involves a stile, which is tricky for bigger dogs like Bill but OK for humans & small dogs that can be carried over. If you would still like to do half of this walk (there and back) see our walk 'Millington to Givendale'
Start / End: Millington
Distance: 3.28 miles
Time: 1.5 hours
Map: OS 294
This is a lovely scenic walk and, though the last mile is on road, it's very quiet. The first part heads up from the village and affords great views from the Wolds Way before dropping into Sylvan Dale. It's also a great excuse to visit the Gait Inn.
Start / End: Bishop Wilton
Distance: 4.4 miles
Time: 2 hours 15 minutes
Map: OS 294
This is a walk of 3 parts, the middle part of which is all on road, which is not ideal but it does join up two rather nice walks either side! I also fell over in a sheep field toward the end so ended up muddy and wet - so be careful!
Start / End: Bishop Wilton
Distance: 2.52 miles
Time: 1 hours 20 minutes
Map: OS 294
You will love the stunning views on this walk, which is one of our shorter ones, so it's fantastic if you only have a limit amount of time to get out and enjoy the Wolds - it was a bit wet to start but it got better as we went along.
Start / End: Londesborough Village
Distance: 1.95 miles
Time: 1 hour
Map: OS 294
We did this short walk on a rainy day but it was pretty easy and nice to get out to stretch our legs. There is quite a bit of livestock in the fields, so for most of it Bill was on a lead. Also watch out for red kites.
Start / End: The Mile Cafe, Pocklington
Distance: 3.18 miles
Time: 1 hour 20mins

Start / End: The Mile Cafe, Pocklington
Distance: 4.5 miles

Map: OS 294
A great way to stretch your legs, with some interesting detours exploring the Madhyamaka Kadampa Meditation Centre, if you want to take your time. Plus two fabulous refreshment stops.
Start / End: Thixendale Village

Start / End: Wharram Percy car park
Distance: 4.24 miles
Time: 2 hours
Map: OS 300
This is such a lovely historical walk that combines a visit to the deserted medieval village site, a stroll down an old railway track-bed and a fabulous hike along Deep Dale, although curious cows made us veer off course a bit. (cows can be avoided)
Start / End: Sir Tatton Sykes Monument, B1252

Time: 3 hours

Start / End: Kirby Grindalythe
Distance: 5.37 miles
Time: 2.5 hours
Map: OS 300
This was a bit tricky and we did go wrong a few times due to changes in some of the footpaths, but if you follow our instructions and OS map you should be able to enjoy this great walk. Plus we are working on improving the waymarking!
Start / End: Fridaythorpe (duck pond)
Distance: 7.78 miles
Time: 3.5 hours
Map: OS 294
This is a beautiful walk includes a host of special features that make it as interesting as it is stunning. It includes Wave and Time, one of the WANDER art installations as well as dew ponds and glorious views across five different Dales.
Start / End: Gatehowe Road, Hanging Grimston
Distance: 3.5 miles
Time: 2 hours
Map: OS 300
An extremely scenic walk with glorious views, but it was slightly tricky following the route through some of the fields, there were 6 stiles and it had a steep ascent at the end of Hanging Grimston Wold. Still worth it though!
Start / End: Kirby Underdale
Distance: 3.69 miles
Time: 1 hour 45 mins
Map: OS 294
This is such a lovely walk in the dale above Kirby Underdale for a frosty day, which is when Bill and I did it - BUT - I would advise to save it for after when it has been dry for a while as it includes scaling a fence / dog paddling when wet!
Start / End: North Grimston village
Distance: 6.32 miles
Time: 3 hours
Map: OS 300
Bill & I loved this walk as there were plenty of off lead romping opportunities, gorgeous views, mostly easy paths (with only one muddy / sheep filled section) and a couple of intriguing names to research!
Start / End: South Cave
Distance: 2.8 miles
Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

Short walk in two parts - Loop One explores Little Wold Plantation and finds one of the lovely hand-carved poetry benches. Loop Two goes into Great Wold Plantation and is a nice addition if you want to stretch your legs further.
Start / End: South Cave
Distance: 6.15 miles
Time: 3 hours
Map: OS 294
Visiting the poetry bench near South Cave is just one of the highlights of this walk along Comber and Drewton Dale, which also delivers stunning views all the way across to the River Humber, and, when we visited, some beautiful autmn foliage.
Start / End: Wolds Way, Nunburnholme
Distance: 2.93 miles
Time: 1.5 hours
Map: OS 295
This was meant to be a round walk from Nunburnholme, but as the name suggests, it's now a thin, there-and-back-again one, as halfway we encountered a busy road. I wanted to include it though as Nunburnholme has some fascinating history.
Start / End: Allerthorpe Woods car park
Distance: 4.85 miles
Time: 2 hours
Map: OS 294
We did this walk on a pleasant autumnal afternoon, when the sun was shining and the leaves were turning golden. It's a lovely mix of woodland and stretches of wide-open spaces, no cows and some water for Bill to jump in.
Start / End: Sutton Road- Allerthorpe Woods
Distance: 2 miles
Time: 45 mins
Map: OS 294
This lovely walk takes the smaller woodland tracks, so whilst it is not as accessible as our other Allerthorpe walks, it is flat and offers a peaceful, off-lead stroll in glorious woodland, plus, in late summer, great bramble picking!
Start / End: Allerthorpe Woods car park
Distance: 2.5 miles
Time: 1 hour
Map: OS 294
This accessible off-lead walk is another lovely stroll that is great for dogs and humans that may have less mobility. Great for ball throwing - Bill loves it here!

This is a short, accessible walk for everyone, including older dogs and people who are less mobile - one of Bill's favourites for a ball throw (and puddles!)
Start / End: Main St, Elvington
Distance: 3.25 miles
Time: 1 hour 15 mins
Map: OS 294
Although not technically in the Wolds, enjoy the autumn colours or spring shoots on this woodland walk. It initially runs along the River Dewent where Bill likes a dip and it can get a bit muddy and water-logged after rain - so wear wellies!
Start / End: Meadow Lane, Driffield
Distance: 6.92 miles
Time: 3 hours
Map: OS 295
This waterside walk is a lovely one for starting and finishing in Driffield, where there are lots of dog-friendly cafes. It can get a bit muddy, wet and even waterlogged though, by Nafferton Beck, so I would not recommend it after it has been really rainy.
Start / End: Car park at Leavening conservation area
Distance: 4.16 miles
Time: 2 hours
Map: OS 300
A lovely walk with some very quiet on road walking (mainly uphill) which made it a lot easier and great views from Leavening Brow itself.

We did this walk on a pleasant autumnal afternoon, when the sun was shining and the leaves were turning golden. It's a lovely mix of woodland and stretches of wide-open spaces, no cows but just be warned this can get muddy especially in the woods! Plus the pub in Allerthorpe is now back open!
Start / End: Cobdale Cottage, Cobdale Lane
Distance: 4.9 miles
