We would like everyone to be able to enjoy our countryside, but this comes with the responsibility to behave in way that does not negatively effect where we have been, so that others can enjoy it, just as much, after us.
Bill & I would, therefore, like you to take note of the advice below.
Bill and I are committed to protecting the landscapes, wildlife, and communities that make the Yorkshire Wolds so special. Our approach to sustainability is rooted in respect—for the environment, for the people who live and work here, and for the generations to come who will walk these paths after us.
We encourage low-impact, responsible exploration of the countryside by promoting walking as a healthy, eco-friendly way to experience nature. Our routes are designed to reduce pressure on popular hotspots by highlighting lesser-known paths and supporting year-round walking to spread footfall more evenly.
We advocate for the Countryside Code, leaving no trace and taking only photographs, and we always highlight access issues to prevent damage to land, livestock, and habitats. Our downloadable route guides reduce the need for printed materials, and we partner with local businesses to promote circular, local economies.
We actively support dog-friendly and sustainability-minded enterprises, helping walkers make responsible choices about where they eat, stay, and shop. Our events avoid single-use plastics, and we encourage car-sharing or use of public transport where possible.
By fostering a strong sense of place and connection, we hope to inspire care and custodianship of this unique chalk landscape. Every step with Walking the Wolds is a step towards a more mindful and sustainable way to explore and enjoy the countryside.
